The other day I found myself in the need of some new cookware. I haven’t ever paid much attention to cookware, but I found that I would be better off with a decent saucepan and a skillet with a lid. It’s always been a bit of a pain to cook with limited supplies, and even though it required the stretching of my college budget, it has definitely been worth it.
You can see what I got here on Amazon (which has the best prices around):
- Lodge Logic 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet
- Lodge Logic 12-Inch Iron Cover
- Winware Stainless Steel Sauce Pans
I would definitely do it over again, and if anyone is wondering, these all work with magnetic induction cooktops, which are about the coolest thing in cooking, I think.
Have you bought any ridiculously indispensable kitchen tool recently? Let us know in the comments!

I bought that same cast iron pan (but no lid) and absolutely love it. It took me some time getting used to cooking in cast iron, but just knowing my food is healthier makes it up. Just make sure you know how to season it properly as I messed up my first two tries. Also don’t heat it to high and try to cook tofu… big mess.
I also bought a nice sauce pan but it was made out of aluminum so I am in the market again for something healthier like stainless steel. You should let us know how that stainless steel pan you got is and what size you got. Thanks benjo!
Thanks for the comment Christopher. Yeah, I know how to season it, though I won’t say I’m a pro or anything like that.
So far the saucepan (3 qt), which I have used quite a bit, has been great. It seems to be made well and I think it’ll hold up. And as I said, it works with induction cooktops.
Thanks. I may buy one of those. Hopefully it can withstand my forgetfulness and very hot temperatures.
